He was 43 years old. The East Coast rap pioneer died in his sleep, though the cause of death is not yet known.
His family says an update will be made following the release of an autopsy report.
“It is with beyond a heavy heart that Duck Down Music is sadly confirming that Sean Price passed away early this morning in his Brooklyn apartment, Saturday, August 8th, 2015,”
a rep said via statement to BET.com.
“The cause of death is currently unknown, but it was reported that he died in his sleep. He’s survived by his wife, and his three children.”
Price’s many friends and colleagues in hip hop have taken to Twitter to express their shock and disbelief at his passing.
“Rest in Power Sean Price.You were always a friend, a brother and an inspiring lyricist We love you & we will always miss you Ruck,”
wrote Immortal Technique, While Just Blaze said he and Price
“were just cracking jokes yesterday…”
Price, who turned 43 in March, was also part of the famed hip hop collective Boot Camp Clik as well as a solo artist, who was becoming quite the YouTube star with pranks he played riding a CitiBike, recreating Tyrese’s famous bus ride, and opening a rap clinic.
His latest album, Mic Tyson, dropped in 2013 and was critically-acclaimed.
He was planning to release a new collection, Song in the Key of Price on August 21.
