After leaving the major-label system following the release of his ninth studio album Paperwork in October 2014 via Columbia, T.I. has finally found a new home under Jay Z’s wing.
Ahead of his pop-up performance at Greenbriar Mall in his hometown of Atlanta on Monday night (Feb. 22), Tip announced he has signed a distribution deal with Roc Nation for his upcoming album, Dime Trap, and joins the growing list of artists who are co-owners of Tidal. T.I. also unveiled breezy new track ‘Money Talk’, which is currently a Tidal video exclusive.
It’s taken from his forthcoming album, The Dime Trap, which is due out later this year on Jay Z’s Roc Nation label.
“Newest artist owner in the @TIDAL fam! #TIDALXTIP #BankRollMafia HustleGangOverErrrrthang”
he wrote in a photo caption on his Instagram account.
The Tidal connection seems to indicate that he’ll be following Rihanna and Kanye West by releasing Dime Trap exclusively via the service, despite its hiccups rolling out Rihanna’s Anti in January
Dime Trap will mark Tip’s return to his trap music roots, the genre he helped put on the map when he created Grand Hustle Records and released his multi-platinum album ‘Trap Muzik’ featuring classics “24’s,” ”Rubberband Man” and “Let’s Get Away.”
As he told Complex this fall ‘Dime Trap’ will sound like “’Trap Muzik’ on steroids.”
Over the course of his career, Tip has won three Grammy Awards and has sold over 10 million albums in the US alone.
